  • Planned Overdraft

    You can apply for an interest and fee-free tiered Planned Overdraft of up to žŒ£1,500. In your first year of study you could get up to £500ž‰†† for the first six months, and then ask us to increase it to £1,000††† in months seven to nine. From month 10Œ† until the end of your third year you can ask for another increase to £1ž,500‰††. If you’re studying on a course that is longer than three years, you can request to increase it to £2,000 from year four onwards, should you need it.

  • Student credit card

    You can also apply for a Lloyds Bank Student credit card, with a credit limit of at least £500, to help you spread costs for large purchases. Representative 19.9% APR (variable).

  • Free everyday banking

    Stay in credit and you won’t have to pay monthly fees. Bank your way with Internet Banking, Telephone Banking, Mobile Banking, in-branch, and also get free Text Alerts.

  • Eligibility criteria

    To apply for a Lloyds Bank Student Account you must be 17 or over, have been a resident in the UK for at least three years and be studying for a full-time course that lasts for a minimum of two years or be on a one year access course leading onto a full-time degree.

  • International students

    If you don’t meet the eligibility criteria for a Lloyds Bank Student Account you may be eligible for our Classic Account  or another one of our Lloyds Bank current accounts.

  • Overdrafts and credit cards

    To apply for a Planned Overdraft or Lloyds Bank Student credit card, you must be 18 or over. All overdrafts are subject to our assessment of your circumstances and are repayable on demand.

It shows the effect of interest accruing on interest, in a situation where no repayments to the borrowing are made in a year. This allows you to compare rates across different organisations. The overdraft interest rate on the next £300 will be 8.21% EAR variable and a monthly overdraft usage fee of £6 will apply.

Planned Overdraft

  • Setting up a Planned Overdraft is free.
  • In your first year, you can apply for a Planned Overdraft where there is an interest and fee-free amount of up to:
    • £500 for the first 6 months,
    • £1,000 from month 7,
    • £1,500 from month 10,
  • In your second and third year, your Planned Overdraft can be up to £1,500
  • In your fourth year and above, your Planned Overdraft can be up to £2,000

Switching with us

We can move your current account to a Lloyds Bank Student Account in just seven working days. Your standing orders and Direct Debits will be automatically transferred to your new account. All you have to do is let us know the date you want to be switched and provide details of the account you want to switch from.

Current accounts and services are offered subject to your status. They are available only to personal customers who are aged over 18, are resident in the UK, and are either an EU national or have permission to stay in the UK for at least 12 months.

In-branch

Pop into any Lloyds Bank branch and our staff will be happy to help. You’ll need to bring your UCAS confirmation letter or a letter from your university or college confirming your place.

If you aren’t already a Lloyds Bank current account holder, you’ll also need to bring your ID, such as a passport or driving licence, and proof of address, such as a utility bill (not a mobile phone bill) that’s dated within the last three months.

You can apply for a Lloyds Bank Student Account if:

 

  • you’re aged 17 or older
  • you’ve been a UK resident for at least 3 years
  • you’re studying full-time on an eligible course of at least two years' duration, or a one-year full-time access course leading to a degree.

 

Choosing the right account for you

Ways to apply

Applying for an account online can be a convenient way to open  an account but do bear in mind that you will be required to provide proof of identification and address at a Lloyds Bank branch to complete your application.

Classic Account details

What documents can I bring?

After applying for a current account online, you will need to provide proof of your identity and address  at your nearest branch within 14 days so we can continue with your application. All documents must be the most recent ones. We don’t accept expired documents or documents printed off the internet.

We need to see one of the following documents.

This document must show your full name. You can choose from the following:

•  current United Kingdom, European Union or European Economic Area photo driving licence
•  current UK / EU / EEA passport
•  EU / EEA identity card
•  all other current signed passports with a valid UK visa
•  benefits or pensions notification letter confirming the right to benefit
•  current UK non-photo driving licence
•  blue disabled driver’s pass.

PLUS

We need to see one of the following documents.

This document must show your full name and current address. You can choose from the following:

•  bank, credit card or building society statement showing transactions
•  current UK driving licence (if it hasn’t been used as proof of your identity)
•  utility bill
•  local authority tax bill for current year
•  benefits of pensions notification letter confirming the right to benefit (if it hasn’t been used as proof of your identity)
•  original letter on headed paper issued by educational institution confirming place on a course (must confirm full name, UK and overseas address, start and end date of course)
