  • Eligibility criteria

    To apply for a Lloyds Bank Student Account you must be 17 or over, have been a resident in the UK for at least three years and be studying for a full-time course that lasts for a minimum of two years or be on a one year access course leading onto a full-time degree.

  • International students

    If you don’t meet the eligibility criteria for a Lloyds Bank Student Account you may be eligible for our Classic Account  or another one of our Lloyds Bank current accounts.

  • Overdrafts and credit cards

    All overdrafts are subject to our assessment of your circumstances and are repayable on demand.

If you use a Planned Overdraft of £1,800 in your second year the overdraft interest rate we will charge on the first £1,500 will be 0% EAR CloseEquivalent Annual RateThe Equivalent Annual Rate (EAR) is used for overdrafts. It shows the effect of interest accruing on interest, in a situation where no repayments to the borrowing are made in a year. This allows you to compare rates across different organisations. The calculation does not include fees or other charges which are quoted separately. variable and a monthly overdraft usage fee will not apply. The overdraft interest rate on the next £300 will be 8.21% EAR variable and a monthly overdraft usage fee of £6 will apply.

Planned Overdraft

  • Setting up a Planned Overdraft is free.
  • In your first year, you can apply for a Planned Overdraft where there is an interest and fee-free amount of up to:
    • £500 for the first 6 months,
    • £1,000 from month 7,
    • £1,500 from month 10,
  • In your second and third year, your Planned Overdraft can be up to £1,500
  • In your fourth year and above, your Planned Overdraft can be up to £2,000

NUS Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get my free NUS extra card?
To benefit from the free NUS extra card offer, all you need to do is open your Student Account between 01/08/2016–16/10/2016. Your unique promotional code and details of how to apply for your first card will be sent by SMS, via your Digital Inbox within Internet Banking, or by post to the address your Student Account is registered at. Codes will be sent out at the beginning of September or within 15-20 days of opening your account if you open it after this time.


After you’ve applied for your card you’ll immediately be able to access the online NUS extra discounts in the “Track my Card” section and under ”My Account” at www.nus.org.uk. You’ll be able to access the full range of discounts once your card arrives which will be sent out to you by the NUS within 7-10 working days.


What should I do if I don’t receive or lose my promotional code letter?
Providing you open a Student Account between the 01/08/2016–16/10/2016 you will be sent a unique promotional code to claim your first free NUS extra card. Codes will be sent at the beginning of September or within 15-20 days of account opening if you open your account after this time. If you have lost or not received your promotional code letter you can contact us in branch or by phone to be reminded of your code. You will need to claim your first free card by 31/12/2016.


How do I register for my first free NUS extra card?
Full details of what you need to do to claim your first free NUS extra card will be detailed in the communication we send you. To claim your first free NUS extra card you’ll need to follow the instructions provided and ensure you apply for your card by 31/12/2016.


When is my NUS extra card valid until?

All NUS extra cards issued as part of our Student Account offer are valid until 30 September annually regardless of when you apply for your card.


How do I renew my free NUS extra card?
Providing you previously registered for a free NUS extra card by 31st December and you still hold your Student Account you will receive a renewal email from the NUS which will contain full details on how to renew your card for the second or third time. The NUS will send your renewal email to the email address you provided to them when you registered for your first free card. Emails will be sent out in September and follow-up reminders until the end of December.


To ensure you are able to benefit from the offer for up to three years you’ll need to use the unique promotional code allocated to you each year. If you don’t do this, you will not be eligible to renew your card in subsequent years.


What should I do if I don’t receive or lose my NUS renewal email?
If you don’t receive a renewal email from the NUS within 10 days of the end of September, please ensure you check your spam/junk mail folders. If you still can’t find it, please contact the NUS who will be able to help providing you are eligible to renew your NUS extra card for a further year

Switching with us

We can move your current account to a Lloyds Bank Student Account in just seven working days. Your standing orders and Direct Debits will be automatically transferred to your new account. All you have to do is let us know the date you want to be switched and provide details of the account you want to switch from.

Current accounts and services are offered subject to your status. They are available only to personal customers who are aged over 18, are resident in the UK, and are either an EU national or have permission to stay in the UK for at least 12 months.

Pop into your nearest Lloyds Bank branch and our staff will be happy to help. In busier periods when staff may not be immediately available, we’ll be happy to book an appointment for a later date.

You'll need to bring the following documents with you, which should be originals and not photocopies:

  • Your UCAS confirmation letter or a letter from your university/college confirming your place.

If you aren’t an existing Lloyds Bank current account holder, you’ll also need to bring:

  • Proof of ID (such as a passport or driving licence)
  • Proof of address (as long as it's not a mobile phone bill, this can be any official document that's less than three months old, with your name and current address).

You can apply for a Lloyds Bank Student Account if:

 

  • you’re aged 17 or older
  • you’ve been a UK resident for at least 3 years
  • you’re studying full-time on an eligible course of at least two years' duration, or a one-year full-time access course leading to a degree.

 

Choosing the right account for you

To apply for a Lloyds Bank Student Account you must be 17 or over, have been a resident in the UK for at least three years and be studying for a full-time course that lasts for a minimum of two years or be on a one year access course leading onto a full-time degree.

If you’ve lived in the UK for less than three years or plan to study in the UK, you may be eligible for our Classic Account  or another one of our Lloyds Bank current accounts.

• No overdraft

International Students who have lived in the UK for less than 3 years are not eligible for an overdraft.

Ways to apply

Applying for an account online can be a convenient way to open  an account but do bear in mind that you will be required to provide proof of identification and address at a Lloyds Bank branch to complete your application.

Classic Account details

What documents can I bring?

After applying for a current account online, you will need to provide proof of your identity and address  at your nearest branch within 14 days so we can continue with your application. All documents must be the most recent ones. We don’t accept expired documents or documents printed off the internet.

We need to see one of the following documents.

This document must show your full name. You can choose from the following:

•  current United Kingdom, European Union or European Economic Area photo driving licence
•  current UK / EU / EEA passport
•  EU / EEA identity card
•  all other current signed passports with a valid UK visa
•  benefits or pensions notification letter confirming the right to benefit
•  current UK non-photo driving licence
•  blue disabled driver’s pass.

PLUS

We need to see one of the following documents.

This document must show your full name and current address. You can choose from the following:

•  bank, credit card or building society statement showing transactions
•  current UK driving licence (if it hasn’t been used as proof of your identity)
•  utility bill
•  local authority tax bill for current year
•  benefits of pensions notification letter confirming the right to benefit (if it hasn’t been used as proof of your identity)
•  original letter on headed paper issued by educational institution confirming place on a course (must confirm full name, UK and overseas address, start and end date of course)
