What can I use as proof of identity?

You can use the following documents as proof of identity:

  • UK passport
  • Passports from eligible countries including EU/EEA (please refer to list below)
  • EU/EEA National Identity Card
  • Northern Ireland Voters Card
  • Young Scot Card (under 18s only) - this can be accepted at all branches

The following passports can be used as an acceptable form of identity:

  • Austria
  • Australia (with valid Visa)
  • Belgium
  • Canada (with valid Visa)
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Iceland
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan (with valid Visa)
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand (with valid Visa)
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • South Africa (with valid Visa)
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • United Kingdom (including Crown Dependencies: Jersey, Guernsey & Isle of Man)
  • USA (with valid Visa)

If you cannot provide one of the above, you will need to produce one document as proof of your identity and one document as proof of your address (one from each box below):

Proof of identity

  • All other current signed passports with valid UK Visa not listed above
  • Current UK non-photo driving licence
  • Benefits or State pension notification letter
  • Blue disabled drivers pass
  • UK Birth Certificate (under 18s only)
  • National Insurance Card (under 18s only)
  • Medical Card/Certificate (under 18s only)

Proof of address

  • Bank, Building Society or Credit Union statement (we do not accept statements printed off the internet)
  • Current UK non photo driving licence (only if it is not been used as your proof of identification)
  • Utility Bill/Utility Statement or Certificate/Letter from a supplier of utilities dated within the last 3 months
  • Local authority tax bill/council tax bill for current year
  • Benefits or pensions notification letter confirming the right to benefit (only if it has not been used as your proof of identification)
