Close an account

Most secondary accounts can be closed online. Answer the questions below to guide you to the best way to tell us which accounts you want to close.

  • Follow these steps:
    1. Logon to the app
    2. Go to the account you want to close and select the 3 dots ​
    3. Select the option to ‘Close this account’
    4. Follow the on-screen guidance

    You'll be guided through screens to nominate a current account.  This will be used to transfer existing balances to, pay pending fees or charges and to receive any interest due. Once you have submitted the request, you'll be given a reference number.

Follow these steps:

  1. Logon to Online for Business
  2. Go to the account you want to close and select 'More actions' then 'Account services'
  3. Follow the on-screen guidance

You'll be guided through screens to nominate a current account.  This will be used to transfer existing balances to, pay pending fees or charges and to receive any interest due. Once you have submitted the request, you'll be given a reference number and we'll send you a confirmation through email and SMS.

You can't close your main business account in Online for Business

Closing an account by form

  • Your form needs to be signed in line with your mandate before we can close your account. If you need to update your mandate, visit change who can access your accounts.

  • The fastest way to close secondary accounts is online.

    For other account closure requests you can email your completed form to us. You can find the email address to use at the bottom of Section 5 of the form.

  • You can email your form to us or send to us by post. 

    You can find the email address and postal address in Section 5 of the form.

    Before you send us your form, make sure you have filled it in correctly and it has been signed in line with your mandate.

  • There are a few reasons we might not have been able to close your account:

    • The signatures on the form didn’t match what’s on your mandate. If you need to update your mandate, visit change who can access your accounts.
    • You still have money in your account and haven’t told us where to send it. You’ll need to move your money to another account before we can close it.
    • Your account is overdrawn. You’ll need to bring your account back in credit before we can close it.
    • There are products, lending or security linked to your account. You’ll need to close, settle or discharge these services before we can close your account. If you have a loan, you can open a separate loan servicing account by contacting your Business Manager or Relationship Team.

    If you still can’t close your account, contact your Business Manager or Relationship team

  • You can use our text or email service to get notified when we’ve received your completed form, and when we’ve closed your account.

    You can sign up for the text or email service in Section 3 of the Account Closure form.

    You will get a closing statement by post when the account has been closed.
