  • Each person gets a Visa debit card and can request a cheque book, if it is available with the main account.

  • Each person can make withdrawals, write cheques, apply for an overdraft or use cash machines without needing the approval of the other.

  • It's easy to move money between your different accounts.

Keep in mind

  • Under 19, Student and Graduate accounts cannot be held in joint accounts.

  • Both people named on the account are individually and jointly responsible for any debts on the joint account.

  • Credit reference agencies frequently create a financial link or association between people who have a joint account; meaning the financial situation of the other person on the account could affect your credit rating.

Setting up a new joint account online

Pop into any Lloyds Bank branch and our staff will be happy to help. In busier periods when staff may not be immediately available, we’ll be happy to book an appointment for a later date. You must both come to your local Lloyds Bank, and will both need to provide identification (such as a driving license or passport). If you aren’t an existing Lloyds Bank current account holder, you’ll need to bring:

Adding a second person to your existing account

At your local branch

If you already have a current account with Lloyds Bank, you can add a second person at your local branch. You must ensure they come with you to your local Lloyds Bank, and you will both need to provide identification (such as a driving license or passport).

No appointment is necessary, unless a new overdraft facility is needed after the account has been converted to a sole account.
