Changing your contactless limit
Our secure Mobile Banking app makes it easy for you to change your contactless limit to one that works for you.
A new feature on our Mobile app is the ability to change your contactless limit. In just a few taps you can choose your own payment between £30 and £95.
Any changes made to your contactless limit will also be applied to payments made by Google Pay or Apple Pay. However, please bear in mind that these services may have different limits.
To change your contactless limit you will need:
- Our Mobile Banking app and access to the internet
- To be registered for Internet Banking
- A compatible mobile or tablet device
- A contactless enabled debit or credit card
You can choose a limit between £30 and £95. Any changes made will also be applied to payments made by Google Pay or Apple Pay. However, please bear in mind that these services may have different limits.

To update your contactless limit in the app
If you want to change your contactless limit but can’t access our Mobile Banking app, speak to us in branch or contact us over the phone.
Please note if you report your card as lost or stolen, you’ll need to log on to the app to change your contactless limit on your new card.

Contactless is a payment function where you can make payments without using your PIN worldwide. Within the UK the limit is £100. Other contactless limits apply outside of the UK, please ask the retailer. Remember you can still use your card for purchases using Chip and PIN.
The £100 contactless payment limit was introduced on the 15 October 2021, and requires retailers to update their terminals in order for payments up to this limit to be accepted.

Only contactless cards issued after 17th November 2017, including replacement cards, can be used worldwide wherever you see the contactless symbol.

It’s quick, convenient and saves you time. There’s no need to rummage around for the right amount of change, or enter your PIN for most of your contactless transactions.

Most contactless payments will appear in the main section of your online statement within a few days. However, some transactions may show first in the ‘View pending transactions’ section.

Absolutely. Your contactless card has the same anti-fraud protection as regular ‘chip & pin’ cards. If your card is lost or stolen, your card has protection against fraud loss, provided that you inform us as soon as you realise your card is missing. For added protection, you will occasionally be asked to enter your PIN when making a payment and your PIN will always be needed for payments of over £100.

Any retailer who displays the contactless symbol (please place the contactless symbol here) can accept contactless payments. This may also be displayed on the terminal. You can now use your contactless card to pay for journeys on TfL buses, London Underground, London trams, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground and some national rail services. You simply need to touch your card on the yellow reader as your board your chosen method of transport – there is no need to buy a physical ticket or key in a PIN.

No. The reader and card are configured to ensure that you will only be charged for one transaction.

For transactions over the contactless limit, the retailer will need you to make purchases using chip and PIN or swipe transactions.

Yes, you can now use our Mobile Banking app to choose a contactless payment between £30 & £95. Changing your contactless payment limit will also affect your Apple Pay or Google Pay limit.
