    You'll need:

    • a valid email address
    • your account number
    • your sort code.

    2. We’ll call you straightaway to verify your identity

    Select a telephone number we have for you and we’ll automatically call you back to verify your identity.

    3. Log in straight away

    We’ll give you your username at the end of the process so you can log in and start managing your money straight away.

    We’ll also send you a letter in the post confirming your registration and username. Keep this letter in a safe place.

  • Fraud detection systems

    We can detect unusual transactions on your account and may contact you to confirm you’re the originator of the request if we believe it may be fraudulent.

    Automatic log out

    If you accidentally forget to log out of online banking, we'll log you out automatically after 10 minutes. This reduces the risk of someone else accessing your account.

    Secure sessions

    When you bank online with us, you’re in a secure session protected by the industry standard 128-bit SSL encryption protocol, which keeps your personal information private as it travels between your browser and our servers.

    You can tell a site is secure when the web address begins with “https:” and, in some browsers, by a closed padlock icon. This indicates that SSL is active and your details are safeguarded. 

  • We're introducing extra security measures to currency online banking.

    When you pay someone for the first time, log in on a device that you haven’t listed as trusted or change your personal or log in details, you’ll receive an automated call asking you to confirm details about your transaction and then to enter a 4-digit number that will appear on your computer screen into your telephone keypad.

    You already do this when setting up a new recipient or standing order, but we are expanding the number of transactions we use extra security measures to keep you safe.

    All you'll need is a telephone near you. You'll be able to choose which number we call you on, provided it's a number we already have for you.

    This ensures the instruction is genuinely coming from you. In the unlikely event that a fraudster acquires your login details, they are unlikely to have access to your phone as well. Without your phone, they won't be able to transfer money away from your accounts. 

  • Your username is specific to you, and we will always ask you to confirm your password and 3 characters of your memorable name from a drop-down list when you log in.

    This protects you from viruses that try to capture your details, because:

    • you never give all your memorable information at once
    • you don't type your memorable information.
  • If someone repeatedly attempts to log in to your online banking account with incorrect details, we disable all access to the service as a security measure.

    If you accidentally disable your access by entering the wrong details, you can reactivate your account easily.

    1. Go to the log in page.
    2. Select 'Forgotten password and memorable information'.
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
