Smart deliveries, smarter business

We’re all familiar with the app-based food delivery platforms with scores of couriers speeding around our cities that have revolutionised the fast-food industry. But what if SMEs could plug into something similar, to supply their B2B customers? Serial entrepreneur Tevin Tobun set out to answer this question with the launch of ROUTD in 2024.

The AI-powered logistics platform enables firms of all sizes to manage and track deliveries in real time, while also generating data that gives them valuable insights into their customers, helping them anticipate demand and react accordingly.  At the same time, customers have an app that enables them to track their orders, communicate with delivery drivers and provide feedback to suppliers.

A platform for growth

CEO Tevin said: “I saw that the B2B sector was lagging behind B2C and my idea was to empower small businesses by giving them the technology, the infrastructure and the data they need to grow. We live in a world where there are plenty of SMEs which are great at what they do, but they don’t have access to the logistics they need to achieve their full potential."

"With ROUTD they can go onto the platform, find a driver, track them as they make the delivery and get feedback from the customer, so they have complete control without having to create their own infrastructure.”

Tevin says his background in the logistics sector and as a successful entrepreneur helped give him the credibility to secure funding for ROUTD, which has enjoyed rapid growth, both at home and in the USA. It has won customers in both the public and private sectors, in industries including healthcare, food & drink, retail and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods.

And, he said that balancing innovation with an ‘old school’ approach to the fundamentals of the business, driving down costs and building margins as early as possible, had been key to its success.  Revenues have already topped £2.5 million, with annual growth of around 80%, and the company employs more than 40 staff.

Eyeing opportunities overseas

Tevin is already eyeing opportunities to expand into Europe, but he says he is determined to preserve the company culture through this period of rapid growth. He said: “What makes us unique is that we understand small businesses, and we can’t lose sight of that, no matter how big we get. Imagine being a small bakery, for example, but having the same tech infrastructure as Amazon. It gives every business the opportunity to be the best they can be.”

And Tevin credits Lloyds with seeing and supporting his vision at an early stage.

A good banking relationship isn’t about looking at the numbers and providing finance. It’s also about being fully invested in your idea and creating a supportive ecosystem for growth.

Focused on the future

Tevin believes that one of his key skills as an entrepreneur is anticipating the technologies that will prove transformative in the future, which has proved vital to the ROUTD business model. He remains excited about how the advance of technology will enable him to offer ever more valuable services to his customers moving forward.

He said: “Technology is evolving so quickly that we must be thinking five years ahead. The ROUTD platform already has the capability to plug into autonomous vehicles, for example. And I can see a time when ROUTD AI will be able to analyse data and identify trends so accurately that we can predict when your customer will want to order something. So, we’re already picking that product and sending it to the right location, even before they have clicked the ‘order’ button.”

While Tevin describes himself as a natural born entrepreneur, who has already founded nine businesses and sold five, he says he gets as much satisfaction from facilitating other people’s as he does from his own.

He said: “My businesses have always been designed to help other people grow their business. Creating an environment that allows everyone to realise their potential – including my colleagues – is what's always driving me.”
