Founded by Managing Director Stuart Randall in 2013, The Drinks Club started out selling a single premium rum line from a shed, but it quickly became clear that it was wider product portfolios that really opened doors.
Today, the business supplies a wide range of beverages, from spirits and champagne to beer and wine, to hospitality venues across the UK.
Cash flow was key from the outset. As the company grew, The Drinks Club moved from an Invoice Factoring solution to Invoice Discounting which allowed Stuart more control over the company’s credit processes while securing cash against a growing debtor book.
Invoice Finance is a solution that lets businesses borrow against their accounts receivable to generate cash quickly. “It’s a great option for businesses that are starting out, looking to grow or that don’t have access to assets they can borrow against,” explains Lisa Nicholson, Invoice Finance Client Manager, Lloyds.
Stuart Randall Founder and Managing Director, The Drinks ClubIn an industry that’s so cash flow heavy, we sit in a part of the chain that’s cash flow negative. Customers expect extended terms, but suppliers’ terms are tight. It would’ve been almost impossible for us to launch the company without support from Lloyds, and it would’ve been equally difficult to grow the business without the Invoice Finance solution.
With Lloyds’ support freeing up cash to invest in technology and automating processes, The Drinks Club continues to achieve year-on-year growth, reporting over £40m turnover in 2025 despite challenging market conditions across the hospitality sector.
A new warehouse in Hayes has played an integral role in the operational upgrades of the business, with greater storage space, an external yard and the introduction of specialist forklifts to improve efficiencies. The move, supported by a £1.2m Growth Guarantee Scheme Loan from Lloyds, has given The Drinks Club the ability to confidently relocate without compromising their day-to-day operations.
Technology remains a major differentiator for The Drinks Club too. The business has developed an industry-first supplier promotional portal which allows brand owners to create bespoke discounts and promotions for customers in real-time.
This has strengthened supplier experiences, improved cross-selling opportunities, and positions the business as a key market route for drinks brands, it’s simply flexibility that competitors are unable to offer, as Stuart explains.
Lloyds’ Invoice Finance solution has also helped Stuart to invest in the future, and in sustainability.
While Stuart had previously spotted an opportunity to invest in its first electric vehicle – an 18-tonne truck, which played an important role within the wider logistics operation. That number has grown since 2023, with an additional 18-tonne truck added, three electric vans introduced, totalling five electric vehicles within an 18-vehicle fleet, meeting growing customer expectations around sustainability.
Stuart said: “We were seeing demand from clients to show how we were going to reduce our carbon footprint. This makes a big statement and shows that we’re prepared to invest in sustainability. Lloyds’ support has been vital in helping us to pursue that vision.”
Roger Kitching Relationship Manager, LloydsWorking with The Drinks Club has been a brilliant example of what happens when strong ambition is matched with the right financing. Invoice Finance has helped keep day-to-day cash flow moving, while longer term lending has supported investment in operations and technology to fuel the next stage of growth.
