Why check your loan eligibility?

See how likely you are to get approved

If you apply for a loan and get rejected, you could impact your credit rating and make it harder to apply for credit in the future. That’s where a loan eligibility checker comes in. Simply enter your details to see if you can borrow with us before you apply.

No impact on your credit score

We’ll use a soft credit check to work out if we could offer you a loan. This usually involves looking at your credit score to see how likely you are to repay what you borrow, based on your borrowing history. A soft credit check won’t impact your credit score.

Get a personal interest rate

The loan eligibility checker will also show you what your personal interest rate could be based on your chosen loan amount and term.

How the loan eligibility checker works

Step by step

  1. Log in and answer a few questions to tell us more about yourself and your loan details.
  2. We’ll then use these details to complete a soft credit check. This gives us an idea of your financial history which can help us work out what you could borrow.
  3. Get a decision up front and find out if you’re pre-approved for a personal loan. We’ll also give you a personalised rate to help you decide whether to continue with your application.

Good to know

If you like what you see in the eligibility checker, you can go on to apply for your loan.

We’ll use the details you’ve already given us to proceed with your full loan application. You just need to answer some extra questions and accept the terms and conditions of the loan.

Just be aware, at this point we’ll need to complete a hard credit check. This will be noted on your credit file and may impact your credit score.

Let’s look at the details

  • It can vary from lender to lender, based on the reference agencies they use. You don’t have just one credit score. Instead, each reference agency has different information about you and has their own way of scoring.

Lenders might use one reference agency or multiple to help risk assess and make their lending decisions. At Lloyds, the credit reference agencies we use include TransUnion, Experian and Equifax.

Keep in mind that your credit score is not the only factor we consider. Lenders might also look at your affordability, past account history and other details to see if you should be approved for credit.

If you’re worried about a low rating, there are things you can do to help improve your credit score.

  • A history of poor credit could affect you getting a loan. But there might be other lender-specific reasons. For example, if you’re under 18 years old or you’re not a UK resident, we might not be able to lend to you. So, it’s worth checking the lender’s criteria before you apply.

  • You can only get an unsecured personal loan with Lloyds. This means the loan is not secured against your home or other asset.

You can use this loan for a range of reasons. Some of the main uses include:

Already have a Lloyds personal loan? You might be able to borrow more, instead of applying for a second loan.

  • It depends on your personal circumstances when you apply. Lenders might consider factors like your debt-to-income ratio, credit score and existing borrowing.

If you have a mortgage, your borrowing commitments may be higher, which may be considered as part of any loan application. But you might still be able to get an unsecured loan.

Use the eligibility checker to find out if you could get a personal loan with Lloyds. Or explore some of the secured loan options.
