Text alerts explained

  • Receive alerts for your use of arranged and unarranged overdrafts.
  • Track your savings account applications.
  • If we have your up-to-date mobile number, we'll automatically enrol you into this service. Learn how to update your number.

Steps to take

We'll guide you through it.

  • We'll text you when you've started or are about to start using your arranged overdraft. We'll also let you know when we start charging you for using your arranged overdraft.

  • We'll text you when you need to add money to your account to cover a standing order. We'll also let you know when you're about to use or have started using an unarranged overdraft.

  • Our text alerts can help you track your savings account applications and manage your existing accounts. We’ll send text messages to your mobile phone once we have your up-to-date contact number.

Let’s look at the details

  • Declining alerts

    If you decline alerts, you might miss important messages about your account. Make sure you keep track of your balance and regularly check your statements in the app, online or telephone banking.

    Overdrafts

    To stop receiving alerts about your:

    • arranged overdrafts, text STOPA to 61112
    • unarranged overdrafts, text STOPU to 61112
    • arranged and unarranged overdrafts text STOP to 61112.

    Your other Lloyds Banking Group accounts

    As we’re part of the same family, if you hold an account with Halifax or Bank of Scotland, you can stop receiving overdraft alerts in the same way. 

    For Halifax the number to text is 65552 and for Bank of Scotland it is 64447.

    Savings accounts

    To stop receiving alerts about your savings account applications, text ASTOP to 61119. You can also cancel alerts for existing savings accounts by texting text BSTOP to 61119.

    Check with your phone provider to see if you’ll be charged to send SMS messages.

    You may still receive alerts from us for up to 24 hours.

  • Setting up alerts

    If you have declined text alerts in the past, you can change your mind and sign up.

    Overdrafts

    To receive alerts about your:

    • arranged overdrafts, text STARTA to 61112
    • unarranged overdrafts, text STARTU to 61112
    • arranged and unarranged overdrafts text START to 61112.

    Your other Lloyds Banking Group accounts

  • Other alerts

    Mandatory alerts

    We may also send you text alerts when:

    • you ask us to to update your phone number
    • you set up a new person or company to receive a payment
    • we refuse a payment
    • we need to speak to you before we make a payment
    • we suspect any fraud related activity.

    You can't stop these alerts.

    Youth, Islamic and Basic accounts

    If you have a Youth, Islamic or Basic account, we'll only send you unarranged overdraft alerts.

    When you're abroad

    If you have an international number or you’re abroad, you can still get alerts. Just check with your service provider about any charges for sending or receiving texts.

    App notifications

    If you use our app, you can receive push notifications when your balance after pending falls to between £0 and £50. Turn these on or off in the app through your notification settings. Your choice will apply to all your current accounts.
