1. Account opening essentials

Requirements for a current account

To apply for a current account, you must be 18 or older and a UK resident.

If you’re aged under 18, you might like to explore bank accounts for kids and teens or our Student Current Account.

Identification we accept

  • Current UK photo driving licence.
  • UK passport.
  • Non-UK passport (mobile banking app only).

If you don’t have any of these, you’ll need to give us two documents to prove your identity and address.

2. Information we need

We'll ask about your:

  • Personal details: Date of birth, nationality, and marital status.
  • Address: Current UK home address and previous address (if less than three years). We also accept international addresses.
  • Contact details: Phone number and email address.
  • Income: Your monthly earnings.
  • Employment: Your job details.
  • Outgoings: Regular expenses like rent or mortgage.

    • Your document must be valid and up to date.
