Lloyds Bank Credit Card AccountAvios Rewards

Your Avios credit card is changing

Your Lloyds Bank Avios credit card account will be changing soon.

Due to regulation changes, American Express® is ending its licencing agreements that allow financial institutions, such as banks, in the European Economic Area to issue their cards. This means we’ll no longer be able to provide you with an American Express credit card.

What does this mean?

We’ve reviewed your Lloyds Bank Avios credit card account to ensure you continue to receive rewards for your spending.

You’ll receive a new Lloyds Bank Avios Rewards MasterCard®  to replace your existing card(s), which gives you 2 Avios for every £5 of eligible spend, and has no annual fee. You’ll also receive a PIN for your new card.

We’ve covered some of the main changes on this page, but if you’d like to see a full breakdown please refer to the guide to changes in the letter we sent you regarding this.

Your new card at a glance

  • You'll receive a new Avios Rewards Mastercard® with a new 16 digit card number and PIN.
  • There is no annual fee. If you’ve paid a fee in the last 12 months we’ll refund part of it into your credit card account. This will be based on the time between when we collected your annual fee and changed your account.
  • You can now collect 2 Avios for every £5 of eligible spend you make.
  • You'll collect 4 Avios for every £5 of eligible spend in a foreign currency.
  • Your foreign exchange fee is 2.95%.
  • You will no longer have an American Express credit card.
  • Your interest rate is not changing and any card offers available to you will be transferred across.
  • Any card member offers provided through American Express Connect will no longer be available.
  • You will not collect Avios for: cash withdrawals, money transfers, interest, fees or charges, transactions at casinos, betting outlets or bookmakers, payments to offline or online current accounts, savings, share-trading, spread-betting, gambling, any other similar account or fraudulent transactions.

Other changes Avios Group are making

Avios Group are changing all their accounts so you can spend your Avios through the British Airways Executive Club. They will have written to you about this recently, and may have even changed your account already.

Avios are rewards points that allow you to turn your everyday spending into exciting getaways. Collect Avios on your groceries, flights, car hire and more. You can then spend your Avios on incredible experiences all around the world.

Important information: If you already have an Avios account, any Avios balance you already have will remain.

Why is this happening?

Due to regulation changes, American Express® is ending its licencing agreements that allow financial institutions, such as banks, in the European Economic Area to issue their cards. This means we’ll no longer be able to provide you with an American Express credit card.

When is this happening?

These changes will happen two months after the date you receive a letter detailing the changes to your credit card account. You will receive a confirmation letter once this has taken place.

What do I do when I get my card?

When you receive your new card you will not need to activate it.

You can continue to use your existing card(s) for 30 days after your account changes, but once you receive your new  Lloyds Bank Avios Rewards Mastercard® we would recommend that you destroy your old cards.

There is no need to cancel any Direct Debits on your card, as these will be transferred for you. But if you have any standing orders (for example an online subscription) you will need to update these with your new Lloyds Bank Avios Rewards Mastercard® details.

If you already have an Avios account, any Avios balance you already have will remain.

Club Lloyds

If you also hold a Club Lloyds current account that you have held for 6 months or more, you will receive an additional 1 Avios per £10 of eligible spend  in pounds sterling and 2 Avios per £10 of eligible spend in a non-sterling currency.

Will this impact my payment protection insurance?

The changes to your credit card  will not affect any Payment Protection Insurance or your account, this includes any claim you may have made against the insurance.

If you have raised a  mis-selling complaint  with us, our PPI complaints team will continue to correspond with you about the progress of your complaint.

Responsible lending

Lloyds Bank is a responsible lender, and we only want you to borrow what you can afford, in a way that is best for you. The outcome of your credit card application depends on our assessment of your circumstances.

If you’d like to talk to us about the choices you’ve made we will be happy to refer you to a member of staff that will be able to help you. They will also be able to talk to you about your options if you’re experiencing financial difficulties.

A note on fraud

You won’t have to pay us for any unauthorised postal, telephone or internet transactions made by someone other than you or an additional cardholder. However, you and additional cardholders must take all reasonable measures to protect your cards and PINs. You should never disclose your PIN, not even to Lloyds Bank staff or the police.

You can give suppliers your card details (but not PINs) and won’t be liable if they misuse them. However, if you’ve given someone else your card details you are liable for all transactions unless you have told us first they are not authorised.
