Packing tips
Moving house is a great time to clear out some clutter.
Pack the things you know you need or want to keep. When packing:
- make sure you wrap breakables carefully and label heavy boxes.
- label each box with what room it should go in when you unpack.
- set aside an hour a day. Just pack one room at a time and you’ll soon have it done.
- make sure you have a van, or a removal company booked.

It’s not just friends and family who need to know you’re moving. Here are some others to tell.

It’ll be a busy day with plenty to do before you can put up your feet and relax.
After you’ve moved
Once you’ve unpacked, there’s just a few final things to tick off your list.
- Take the meter readings – you’ll need to send this on to your new provider.
- Test the appliances – make sure the plugs, boiler and taps are all in working order.
- Check for leaks or damage – your building survey should detail any issues with the property.
- Change the locks – it’s always wise to get locks changed and spare keys cut.
- Introduce yourself to your neighbours – pop round and say hello.
