To set up a standing order

  • 1. Pick an account

    Select ‘More actions’ next to the account you want to pay the standing order from. 

    2. Choose 'Direct Debits and standing orders'

    Then select ‘Set up a standing order’. 

    3. Select who to pay

    Choose from one of your own accounts, someone you’ve paid before or pay someone new.

    4. Type in an amount

    Enter the amount, and a reference if you have one. 

    5. Choose some options

    Select how often to make the payment and when the standing order should start and finish. Then select ‘Continue’.

    6. Check the details are correct

    Then select ‘Confirm standing order’ to go ahead.  

    7. All done

    A message will confirm that your standing order has been set up.

Then select ‘Set up a standing order’.

3. Select who to pay

Choose from one of your own accounts, someone you’ve paid before or pay someone new.

4. Enter in an amount

Enter the amount, and select ‘Make a standing order’. 

5. Choose some options

Select how often to make the payment and when the standing order should start and finish.

6. Check the details are correct

Then select ‘Confirm’ to go ahead. We may ask you to enter your password. 

7. All done

A message will confirm that your standing order has been set up. 

Frequently Asked Questions

  • standing order lets you send a set amount of money on a regular basis, for example to a savings account, or to someone in your family. You can manage or cancel a standing order at anytime using our app or Internet Banking.

    Direct Debit lets a company take money from your account, for example to pay a bill. The amount taken can go up or down, depending on how big the bill is. Some of the things you could use a Direct Debit for are:

    • utility bills
    • gym memberships
    • mobile phone contracts.
  • If you don’t have enough money in your account to pay a standing order, it may be refused by your bank. When this happens, your standing order stops until the next scheduled payment.

    Some banks will have a ‘retry process’, where they will attempt to send your standing order again. Usually, this happens the same day as the standing order was due to go out. If the standing order is unpaid 4 times it will then be cancelled.

  • Standing orders are usually processed on the same day they are set up. However, allow between three to five working days for it to clear.

    If your payment is due to go out on a bank holiday or weekend, the money will leave your account on the next working day.

  • A standing order mandate is a form with your own and the payee’s bank details, as well as the amount, date of payments and occurrence. Once you fill in the mandate, you can send it to your bank to set up the standing order on your behalf.

  • Branch

    You can visit your nearest branch to set up a standing order.
